Unforgettable:
Filling the voids in the deck, 忘不了
Transforming dementia care in Singapore’s HDB estates, the project establishes a vibrant centre where individuals with dementia thrive in social interaction and activities. Through music and reminiscence therapy, it nurtures positive emotions and reducing negative behaviours. The objectives encompass promoting well-being, nurturing independence, and fostering intergenerational bonds. The space provides diverse activities such as karaoke and arcade games, alongside a dementia café challenging stigmas and fostering empathy, offering opportunities for heartfelt interactions and dispelling misconceptions.
As Singapore ageing population are rising, there is a corresponding increase in the prevalence of dementia case. Many elderly individuals with dementia experience feeling of loneliness, rejection, shame, and diminished competence, leading to a loss of sense of purpose and heightened feelings of isolation and depression. While there is no cure for dementia, research shown that social interaction can help slow its progression. Many elderly individuals prefer to age in place, as they find comfort and emotional attachment to their surroundings. Naturally, most of us wish to remain close to our loved ones, even when they are living with dementia, rather than considering placement in a nursing home.
